Tell us a little bit about yourself, when you started triathlon, and why you started?
I’m an Irish Triathlete and Doctor who started my Triathlon journey in medical school as an outlet, to provide balance in a study heavy lifestyle. I fell in love with the community that encompasses the sport of triathlon, its inclusion and enduring mindset. As a doctor healthy living is at the forefront of my mind. I feel the triathlon lifestyle, no matter the level, allows people to form many good habits that can benefit them throughout life.
What is your favourite discipline out of swim, bike and run?
I grew up swimming, so my natural draw is to the water. However, I have grown to love running, it’s simplicity and accessibility no matter where you are in the world! All you need is a pair of trainers!
Favourite training session?
I love hill reps, either on the bike or run! Using our environmental surroundings to gain training benefits is amazing! It also is a great way to improve strength on the bike or improve form on the run. Its also a great session to do with a group or training partners!
What is your pre-race breakfast?
A banana, coffee (must have) and toast or bread with some peanut butter or jam whichever is available!
What is your favourite race?
Hands down The King of Greystones triathlon in Wicklow, Ireland. It sells out every year, raising money for a great children’s cancer charity, The Gavin Glynn Foundation. A tough open water swim, a hilly bike and a flat run with fantastic support to the finish line by the local community. Everyone should give it a try!
Favourite movie?
Growing up in my dad’s martial arts gym, it would hands down have to be Million Dollar Baby. Animation wise I love the concept of the film Inside out!
What can’t you live without?
Exercise & Movement. A big part of my life that I will never take for granted. We all have a body that enables us to get outside and move which can bring so much positivity to our daily lifestyle both physically and mentally.
What is the best piece of advice you have ever been given?
Hurry Slowly
What advice would you give to someone just started in their triathlon journey?
Listen to your own body and make sure you are not getting caught up in the newest fad in training. Improvement comes from consistently doing the simple things right not a quick fix or short cut effort.
What is your no.1 goal in triathlon?
To reach my sporting potential whilst enjoying the journey.
Favourite TRI-FIT piece of kit?
The new Tri Fit goggles that I had the opportunity to wear at the South Asian Championships in Nepal. I had no issues from the moment I dived in to exiting into transition. They are amazing for both pool swims and fast paced open water events. Comfortable. Reliable. Easy
